dc.description.abstract | Limonoids belong to the group of highly oxygenated triterpenoids (triterpene derivatives) containing high amounts of bioactive limonoids in order to promote health benefits. The different fractions of limonoids were extracted with ethyl acetate, acetone, methanol using Soxhlet extraction. The total limonoids content, the limonin content, the antioxidant and anticancer activities were investigated. The total limonoids content was determined by colorimetric methods using DMAB indicator reagent, while HPLC analytical method was used to quantify the limonin content and the DPPH radical scavenging assays were applied for determining the capacity of antioxidant. Compare among solvents, Ethyl acetate extracts were produced the best result. The antioxidant capacity measure by DPPH scavenging was 34.42% and 23.22% in Doan Hung and Tan Trieu pomelo seeds, respectively. Limonoids were shown to have an inhibition on human lung and breast cancer. The percentage of cells survival on lung cancer had the lowest in Doan Hung pomelo seed (67.0 ± 2.6%), Tan Trieu pomelo seed (87.8 ± 3.2%). In addition, Doan Hung and Tan Trieu pomelo seeds also had influence in breast cancer cells with CS values of 78.3 ± 2.7% and 79.6 ± 2.5%, respectively. As a result, pomelo seed was considered to be a good source of bioactive compounds, antioxidants and anticancer.
