dc.description.abstract | Black tiger shrimp culture is consider as one of the advantages of Vietnam, the potential to develop improved-extensive shrimp farming system is great with about 200,000ha areas. The need to find solutions to improve not only techniques but also the efficiency of this farming is necessary. The study aim is to evaluate the quality of water in improved-extensive shrimp ponds and to approach to black tiger shrimp productivity through those criteria to find the effectiveness of using probiotics to improve shrimp farming method. This study was conducted at Tan Long Cooperative in Ca Mau province, Vietnam. There were three treatments including two treated with probiotics and control pond. The method is to apply probiotic with expecting it will have a better outcome than the one that not apply them. However, in a result shows that there are no statistically significant different between those treatments but it is more stable and controllable in term of water quality in shrimp pond with probiotic and that in shrimp pond without. Therefore, using probiotics leads to the higher shrimp production compare to the control but not as high as the expected result. In conclusion, the water quality is suitable for shrimp culture and more stable in treatments with applying probiotics. Results of this study can be used as references for the following researches to have a better experimental design to evaluate the effectiveness of using probiotics in large culture pond like improved-extensive shrimp pond (>1.3ha water area/pond).
