dc.description.abstract | Trichophyton rubrum is the most common dermatophyte in the world with the highest prevalence such as in Korea. The infections which caused by this world-wide distributed dermatophyte can be kindly persistent and therefore it difficult to treat, the partly reason is the decreased efficiency of the host’s immune response. The present treatment strategies mostly affect the metabolic active fungus with no effect to the spores.
The aim of this study was to test the antifungal activity of lemon seed extract on Trichophyton rubrum growth. The mixture of lemon seed extract with different ratios and concentration, certain amount of inoculum and medium in order to determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) which against T.rubrum. The antifungal of lemon seed extract is belonging to the amount of limonene via broth microdilution and agar plate test and it was characterized as a fungicidal effect. The gained results of this study have indicated that the extract of lemon seed showed not only the statistically significant reduction of T.rubrum colony formation at 8% in agar test and 9% at broth test with the ratio of 1:4 v/v but also the improved herbal advantages of aqueous extracts of lemon seed usage against the growth and development of T.rubrum. In summary, the lemon seed extract could effectively inhibit the growth of T.rubrum at the selectively applied concentration.
