dc.description.abstract | Order picking in a warehouse is the process of retrieving products from their storage
location to comply with specific customer orders. This process is also considered as the
most intensive labor and costly activity among all of the warehouse operations. One of the
most fundamental issue in warehouse nowadays is the storage location of the products inside
it. A considerable amount of cost in order picking process can be reduced if products are
arranged logically within the system. Hence, this thesis will address and focus mainly on
storage assignment of all the items inside a specific warehouse. Particularly, a combination
of strategies, which are correlated assignment strategy, routing policy and order batching
formulation, is used to enhance the efficiency of order picking process. Improving storage
allocation and order batching can allow for great reduction in total travel distance required
in a tour of collecting requested orders, which can result in not only a significant saving of
labor cost but also reduction in customer’s order delivery time. To sum up, the main purpose
of this study is to provide a panoramic insight into storage assignment problem by giving
overview of distinctive approaches which have been mentioned in the literature. | en_US |
