The order picking process from the warehouse perspective is well known as the most labor intensive and costly activity, specifically, it is a reasonable objective to implement a continuous improvement. The appropriate choice of storage assignment policies is combined with various popularity factors in warehouse including routing policies, batching algorithms, size and layout system, products characteristics, etc. which is literally a possible solution to tackle the problem of order picking process. This study inspired by the case of Hung Tri company’s warehouse in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, applies many kinds of knowledge from industrial engineering field such as simulation process design, facility planning, statistics and probability analysis as well as inventory management. “Which storage assignment policy is to minimize an order picking distance and improve picking efficiency?” is a primary question that this thesis aims to discover through a simulation model method of a real case regarding storage assignment problem of a multi-level rack warehouse. Several cases and experiments are proposed by researcher to present the ideas of improving the disadvantages as well as eliminate weaknesses in Hung Tri warehouse current operations. As a result, travel distance and order retrieval time, as well as workforce utilization, was identified and progressed as the key factors to measure the efficiency.en_US
