Caulerpa Lentillfera Extract Loaded Cream Formulation And Its Antioxidant Activity
Abstract
In this study creams were formulated dependent on the anti-oxidant capability of
extracts and its analysis. Antioxidant activity of ethanolic extract of Caulerpa
lentillifera was assessed by using stable 2,2 -Diphenyl-1-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH).
Caulerpa lentillifera is commonly ingredient used in food, cosmetics, medicine. It
contains flavonoid which roles as antioxidant. The cream was formulated into four
formulas; extract concentrate 0% (F0), 0.5% (F1), 1.5% (F2) and 2.5% (F3). The
creams were formulated with olive oil, vitamin E acetate, zinc oxide with same
concentrations namely F1 to F4. During stability studies, the creams were to be
relatively stable accordingly ICH guidelines 40±2ᵒC / 75±5% RH for 1 months.
The formula is analyzed on different parameters like pH, organoleptic properties,
homogeneity, after feel, emulsion type, stability studies at 40 °C, physical stability
of cream and viscosity test. If can be concluded that this creams contain
antioxidant property as provision of a barrier can be used to protect the skin and
avoid wrinkles due to aging of the skin.
