Study The Culture Conditions Of Mycelial Growth Of Domestic Cordyceps Cicadae
Abstract
Cordyceps cicadae is a medicinal mushroom, which had been widely used by Chinese in
traditional treatments including cure for fever, typhus, vision improvement and protection of
renal function, etc... Recent studies also indicated that it can be used as replacement for
Ophiocordyceps sinensis. Nowadays, Cordyceps cicadae had been studied to reveal the
chemical components and mechanisms of action of its biomedical capacity, along with
several strains of Cordyceps cicadae that were discovered in Vietnam. Because of the
increase in need of Cordyceps cicadae production, optimal conditions for cultivating
Cordyceps cicadae was essential to carry out. In this study, four strains of Cordyceps
cicadae were taken for cultivation in order to choose the best strain as well as suitable
conditions for growing. Therefore, the best strain for cultivation was strain AHTP-F0002, the
suitable medium was Schizophyllum (Mushroom) genetics Complete Medium plus yeast
extract(MCM). The optimal temperature and pH for culturing mycelium were found at 30oC
and 7.0, the collected dried biomass yielded at 0. 249g/40ml and 0.19g/40ml, respectively.
Among all carbon and nitrogen sources that had been tested, sucrose and peptone resulted
in the best dried mycelial biomass at 0.208g/40ml and 0.205g/ml, respectively. In
conclusion, the results of this study could be applied for various processes that related in
biomass production of Cordyceps cicadae strain AHTP-F0002.
