Factors Affecting Students' Choice Of Accounting Major: An Empirical Study At International University
Abstract
Accounting is trained at most universities in the field of economics, at
International University, accounting has only been trained for the last 4 years. To find out
what motivated students to choose accounting at school. Therefore, the objective of this
study is to investigate and investigate the factors affecting the students' decision to choose
accounting as a major during their four-year undergraduate studies at International
University - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City. Based on and database of
previous studies of universities, this study references the factors and has been edited to suit
the culture and conditions of the university as well as Vietnam. Four courses of students
majoring in accounting from 2019-2023 are the subject of the study. The survey was
conducted on the basis of a literature review. To collect these opinions, the survey was
conducted for three weeks, a total of more than 100 samples were collected and the results
of each sample were obtained by surveying selected subjects. The study uses quantitative
methods to analyze the results. There are five hypotheses put forward in concluding that
the influencing factors are: Past Achievements, Personal Interests, Job Prospect, Influence
of Family Members and Peers and Media. Through analysis, the given factors almost
coincide with the recommendations of students when recognizing and choosing
accountants. In general, accounting is not a new profession in Vietnam and it is not difficult
to make a choice, this study will be a reference for the school in its work of innovation and
attracting students to the university. school of accounting.
