dc.description.abstract | Pangasianodon Hypophthalmus is one of the main cultured species in the Mekong River of
Vietnam, one of the largest and most important inland fisheries in the world. This study showed
differences in water quality between different places at different times. The study aim evaluates
the quality of water of supplied channel to Striped catfish. It helps to assist provinces in
understanding the situation of water quality in the supplied channels at different times. It also
provides quick reports and warnings for areas with unstable water quality and needs to be solved
so as not to affect farming. This study was conducted at 5 provinces in Mekong Delta (An Giang,
Dong Thap, Can Tho, Vinh Long and Ben Tre provinces). Water quality was collected in 4
months during the dry season in Vietnam including February, March, April and May with
sampling frequency of twices a month during the peak tidal periods. Monitoring by checking
chemical parameters such as EC, COD, TSS, EC, COD, TSS, Total of Alkalinity, NO2, NH4+,
PO4, H2S and Total Aeromonas counted. They were found that almost all collected samples from
5 provinces showed good water quality and are suitable for Striped catfish farming. The
parameters such as: EC, Total Alkalinity, COD, TSS, H2S are usually parameters with relatively
stable changes and there were not many points that are exceeded the standard. Optical parameter
were more variations. The average of NO2 in the provinces over the sampling timepoints ranged
from 0.03 mg/L to 0.1 mg/L. It is relatively stable, but it still had provinces where were exceeded.
NH3 in provinces after 8 times points varied from 0.175 mg/L to 0.413 mg/L. This parameter is
constantly changing and not stable. PO4 is a parameter that needs to be managed because there
are many provinces that were exceed the standard and were not stable. It ranges from 0.052 mg /
L to 0.069 mg / L. In which, Vinh Long province has the best water quality in 4 months of
monitoring and can get water from supply channels to serve striped catfish farming. The
provinces of An Giang, Can Tho, Dong Thap, although water quality is at a level suitable for
Pangasianodon farming, but still need to be treated to improve water from the supply channels
before being brought into use. Ben Tre is the province with the lowest water quality during the 4
months of the monitoring in the 5 provinces in the Mekong Delta. Ben Tre is recommended that
cannot use water from the supply channels to avoid affecting catfish farming. Monitoring should
continue to be done in the Mekong Delta provinces because it is a place that greatly affects the
development of Pangasianodon Hypophthalmus farming in particular and aquaculture in general
in Vietnam. The result of this project can be a good reference for famers or scientists who work
in aquaculture. | en_US |
