dc.description.abstract | The main purpose of this study is to determine phytochemical properties
and antimicrobial activity of Morinda Citrifolia Linn (Noni) fruits and leaves. In this
study, the Morinda Citrifolia Linn fruit extract was initially carried out by only one
solvent ethanol due to the fact that it is harmful to our health in the extraction of
methanol or even with hexane. Although methanol is the solvent which helps to
take the highest yield of the extraction, ethanol is a popular solvent which can be
used in the extraction of Morinda Citrifolia Linn in the purpose of further
application products. Besides that, the presence of Rutin and Scopoletin brings
about the potential properties for further uses. An amount of phenolic and
flavonoid were determined in extract showed the ability of antioxidant. By using
DPPH assay, the IC50 value was 2.198 ± 0.277 (mg/ml) in leaf and 2.275 ± 0.143
(mg/ml) in fruit which were calculated into ascorbic acid equivalent value as 54.56
mg per 100 grams dried fruit powder and 204.15 mg per 100 grams of dried
weight of leaf, respectively. Furthermore, the different antimicrobial activities of
Morinda Citrifolia Linn between gram positive bacteria (Staphylococcus Aureus and
Bacillus subtilis) is better than gram negative bacteria (Escherichia Coli and
Salmonella). The studied indicated that Morinda Citrifolia Linn (Noni) fruits as well
as leaves have efficacy in antioxidant and antimicrobial agents. | en_US |
