A Study On Glutathione Conjugated Sericin Nanoparticles In Cosmetics Applications
Abstract
The creation of cosmetic products that use Sericin nanoparticles to increase their
efficacy and safety has drawn more attention in recent years. Silk Sericin nanoparticle Glutathione cosmetics, shown to have antioxidant properties, are promising. This
study aimed to look into the conjugation formation of Glutathione-conjugated Sericin
nanoparticles and their morphological characterization and antioxidant properties.
Fourier transforms infrared (FTIR) analysis suggested the thiol functional group
(2567.28 cm-1
) of Glutathione in conjugation. Based on the difference in size and
charge, Sericin nanoparticles and Glutathione-conjugated Sericin nanoparticles were
analyzed using sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS
PAGE), which helped to support the hypothesis that Glutathione and Sericin
nanoparticles are conjugated. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Dynamic
Light Scattering (DLS) tests were also used to check the morphological
characterization of Glutathione-conjugated Sericin nanoparticles. The mean diameter
of Glutathione-conjugated Sericin nanoparticles is 253 ± 11 nm, which is larger than
the 224 ± 12 nm of Sericin nanoparticles. The zeta potential of Glutathione conjugated Sericin nanoparticles is -4.3 ± 0.23 mV. A colorimetric assay using the
free radical scavenger picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) was also carried out. By using the DPPH
Free Radical Scavenging Assay to measure antioxidant activity, Glutathione conjugated Sericin nanoparticles showed significant antioxidant capacity when
compared to commercial Ascorbic acid, which had antioxidant capacities of 14.10 ±
0.039 and 15.36 ± 0.064 (µg/mL), respectively. Future studies are advised to confirm
the stability of Glutathione-conjugated Sericin nanoparticles and their use in
cosmetics. This study cannot be a procedure due to limitations in many areas.
