Angelica sinensisis one of common traditional herbal medicines because of its benefits for human health. In detail, Angelica sinensis (Dang Gui) is a well-known Chinese herb that has been utilized for thousands of years in the treatment of feminine illnesses. It is second only to ginseng (Panax ginseng) in terms of popularity, and it is especially well-known for its 'blood tonic' benefits for women. Dang Gui not only helps blood hydroovises, anti-inflammatory effects, pain relief but also laxative effects, good constipation. In this study, detection of biological activities of fractions obtained from methanolic extract of Angelica sinensis roots toward purification was one of most important purposes. Specially, the fractions were isolated as homologous crystals under biological microscope which have biological properties including antioxidant and antibacterial activities. Besides, the extracts of leave and stem, root of A. sinensis were prepared to screen these bioactivities. Main methods for purification of A. sinensis methanolic fractions were column chromatography and thin layer chromatography. Various fractions were continuously purified by both methods to get the homologous crystals. Moreover, these fractions were evaluated biological properties by reducing power assay, and agar well diffusion method. Likely, all extracts of A. sinensis were used these methods to evaluate the antioxidant and antibacterial activities. By reducing power assay, isolated fractions showed an increase in the absorbance with increasing concentration of fractions. From fractions obtained from methanolic extract of Angelica sinensis, subfaction B3.1 and B3.2 were isolated as the same homologous crystals. In which, subfraction B3.2 had effective on antioxidant property when compared to ascorbic acid standard. Besides, the inhibition zone of clearance of all fractions were observed in very small diameter, which means low antibacterial activity. For the comparison, the antibacterial property of all the extracts of A. sinensis showed low effective results whereas the antioxidant property gave positive results. The study contributed to the way for purification of the biological fractions from Angelica sinensis due to the negative and positive results in tested bioactivities. For further study, more bioactive compounds would be isolated from the eluted fractions in this studyen_US
