Gender And Firm Performance: Do Female Ceos Make A Difference? Evidence From Hose Listed Companies
Abstract
This study examines the correlation between the Female gender of CEOs and
the performance of firms in a sample of 234 publicly listed companies on the Ho Chi Minh
Stock Exchange (HoSE) during a span of five years, resulting in a total of 1170
observations. The study seeks to offer valuable perspectives on the gender dynamics
observed in corporate leadership specifically within the Vietnamese environment. Based
on a comprehensive statistical examination of the extensive dataset, the research does not
provide sufficient evidence to reject the null hypothesis. This paper suggests that there is
no statistically significant association between female CEOs and the overall performance
of firms. The study emphasizes the importance of taking into account multiple factors that
impact firm performance, going beyond just the gender of the CEO in order to gain a more
comprehensive understanding of the relationship between gender and corporate
performance in Vietnam.
