Apply Particle Swarm Optimization To Storage Warehouse Design:A Case Study Of Terumo Company
Abstract
A significant part of this industry is the operation of warehouses. Layout design
is one important factor that has a bearing on the effectiveness of warehouse
operations. In this study, the layout of the warehouses where different suppliers
gather and store products for a specified period then deliver to various customers
will be examined with regard to aisle design and shelf configuration. In the
distribution centre, piece and pack picking are mainly carried out. The study aims
at designing a storage configuration that minimises the yearly total handling costs
after rearrangement products into racks. For the placement or pick of products
from the storage area in relation to the distances between the shelves and docks,
account shall be taken of ordering frequency and weight. A particle swarm
optimization algorithm is proposed as a novel heuristic approach to find the
optimal solution. The result shows that the total annual handling cost when
changing in the number of iterations, the computational times, and the yearly
throughput do not make a change in the shelf configuration except the annual
handling cos
