ENTREPRENEURIAL INTENTION AMONG VIETNAMESE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS THE ROLE OF THE DARK TRIAD OF PERSONALITY
Abstract
The principal goal of this study is to analyze the interaction between
entrepreneurial attitude orientation (EAO), which refers to individuals’ inclination on
their self-employment, and their entrepreneurial intention (EI), in consideration
personality factors. As extant literature found evidence mainly from the favorable side,
the study oppositely proposes the understanding of negative personality factors called
dark triad, namely machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy, on entrepreneurial
attitude, intention, and behaviors of Vietnam undergraduate students. Using the sample
size of 349 responses from university students in Vietnam as the target audience, the
study employs structural equation modelling to generate significant relationships
between tested variables. Students with excessive EAO and higher score in dark triad
assessment are significantly confirmed to have more intention to start their own
business in the future. Based on above arguments, dark triad is to significantly mediate
the association between EAO and EI regard the diverse context of Vietnam. With
findings from the study, research in the field of personality- entrepreneurship relation
would be further advanced and then make the contribution to the efficacy of the
organizational recruitment and entrepreneurs’ related training programs.
