Preparation and evaluation of pharmacological activity of formula containing aloe-vera
Abstract
Skin is an important organ of human’s body which is a top layer between human and outside world. And dry skin is a very common skin disease that occurs at all ages. Nowadays, with the development of science, almost cosmetics were created by chemicals. Therefore, the basic intention of the present study was to design a formulation containing the natural ingredients like aloe vera and winter melon with improved physical parameters. the cosmetic gel formulation was performed by using fresh aloe vera and winter melon juice in varied concentrations, added ingredient to improve moisturizing effect like allantoin and using carbomer 940 as gelling agent and evaluated for various parameters. The initial physicochemical parameters of formulation such as pH, viscosity, extrudability, spreadability, and swelling index were examined. Furthermore, formulations were studied for the growth of moisture value on skin
of volunteers. All developed gels showed good homogeneity with absence of lumps. They were stable with respective to their pH, viscosity and other physical parameters. This study also revealed that the gel formulation containing 15% aloe vera and 15% winter melon showed comparatively the best gel to increase skin moisturizing effect. To compare with Aloe vera Gelly, three of formulation groups produced significant (p≤0.05) effects while negative control showed insignificant (p>0.05) in moisture content of skin with respect to time. And skin moisture content was significantly (p≤0.05) increased by the formulation. The newly formulated gel of aloe vera could be suggested as a safe and suitably for improvement of skin hydration level.
