dc.description.abstractOn March 1, 2012, Project 254 "Restructuring Credit Institutions System in the period of 2011-2015” was approved by the Prime Minister to continue the restructuring process of the previous years. This thesis paper evaluates efficiency of 23 Vietnamese commercial banks over the period of 7 years (2010-2016) and makes an overview of banking system in Vietnam during the restructuring period. In this research, DEAP (Data Envelopment Analysis Program) was used to evaluate the effectiveness, under variable return to scale (VRS) approach and output-oriented approach. This nonparametric method estimating each decision making unit (DMU)’s relative efficiency score and takes in here six variables: Fixed Assets, Operating Expenses, Customer Deposits as inputs; Investment Securities, Total Operating Income, Customer Loans as outputs, chosen from three approaches: production approach, intermediate approach and value-added approach. The results demonstrated that Vietnam banking system has the stable level during the restructuring period and still contributed to the economic growth. Some conclusions and recommendations were also made in order to help the managers as well as depositors, borrowers to have the clearer picture of overall restructuring process within bank so that they can manage or invest more effectively.en_US
