The impact of participative leadership on employee's commitment and organizational citizenship behavior of officers in Ho Chi Minh city
Abstract
Nowadays, the trend to democracy is becoming increasingly more popular, and leadership management is not outside this scope. The participative leadership is evaluated as one of efficient leadership styles that can be widely applied among varied organizations. This particular leadership is considered to have influence on employee's commitment and organizational citizenship behaviors, although this effect is not deeply studied on Vietnamese context. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a research about "The impact of participative leadership on employee's commitment and organization citizenship behavior of officers in Ho Chi Minh City" so as to make clear that doubt
The main aim of the research is to study about direct and indirect influence of participative leadership on employee's organization citizenship behavior through mediator of employee's commitment. The participative leader plays the role of independent variable and is measured by five factors. The two remained employee's commitment and organizational citizenship behavior are mediator and dependent variables relatively. The quantitative method is applied for this study and 286 questionnaires are collected by convenience sampling method.
According to the findings, there are three factors of participative leadership that has influence on employee's organization citizenship behavior via employee's commitment, including Consultation, Delegation, Democratic management. On the other hand, Empowerment factor with three factors above are also demonstrated to have direct effect on employee's organization citizenship behavior. Nevertheless, Joint decision making factor shows no effect on any mediator or dependent variable. From such analyses, some recommendations are proposed with the desire of supporting to improve this leadership style among Vietnamese organizations.
