dc.description.abstract | Ensete glaucum (E. glaucum) is a valuable and widely used plant due to its medicinal and pharmacological
properties. The aim of this study is to evaluate acute and sub-acute oral toxicity of hydroalcoholic extract
of E. glaucum seeds in Swiss-albino mice. For acute oral toxicity study, mice in both genders were received
the hydroalcoholic extract (dosage 0.5 mL/10 g BW), were monitored for behavior and mortality within 72
hours. For sub-acute oral toxicity study, mice in both genders were received the hydroalcoholic extract
(dosage 6 mL/kg BW) for 56 days. During experiment, body weight of the mice and clinical observation
was recorded, biochemical parameters and hematological parameters were determined before the test, day
28th and day 56th. For the results, the hydroalcoholic extract from E. glaucum seeds has acute toxicity on
white mice with Swiss albino strain in both sexes with LD50 of 17.46 mL/kg. For sub-acute toxicity test, the
results showed that liver, kidney, and heart histology identify some morphological changes. Furthermore,
hematological, and biochemical data demonstrated that the extract had slight effects on some parameters on
mice. As a result, hydroalcoholic extract from E. glaucumseeds shows a slight effect on mice.In conclusion,
the hydroalcoholic extract showed acute toxicity and a minor but insignificant effect on biochemical,
hematological, and internal organ parameters in sub-acute oral toxicityon mice after two months of research. | en_US |
